چکیده

Ellobius remains are common and often abundant in southeastern Europe, western central Asia archaeological sites. A correct identification of species is crucial for our understanding the evolution communities through time, including biostratigraphic sequences to be established. This study applies geometric morphometric methods (GMM) first lower molars, with objectives: 1) discriminate modern explore morphological size differences reference samples; 2) identify fossil specimens recovered sites, based on aforementioned analysis. The dataset used this paper includes belonging three that today occur Asia: fuscocapillus, E. lutescens talpinus. material comes from Late Pleistocene Iranian site Kaldar Cave (Khorramabad valley, Lorestan Province, Iran). Our shows shape anterior cap arrangement following triangles allow discriminating studied extant species. shapes fuscocapillus m1 appear rather similar, whereas talpinus well separated these two total length greater than lutescens. GMM analyses performed allowed us as some excluding

Early Middle Pleistocene Ellobius (Rodentia, Cricetidae, Arvicolinae) from Armenia

A large mole vole from the early Middle Pleistocene of Armenia shows morphological features and hyposodonty intermediate between basal Early Pleistocene E. tarchancutensis and the late Middle Pleistocene to Recent southern mole vole E. lutescens. The occlusal morphology of the first lower molar is similar to Early Pleistocene forms but hypsodonty values do not overlap either with Early Pleistoc...

A new form of the mole vole Ellobius tancrei Blasius, 1884 (Mammalia, Rodentia) with the lowest chromosome number

The subterranean mole vole, Ellobius tancrei, with aspecific variability in autosomes (2n = 31-54) and unusual sex chromosomes (XX in males and females), represents an amazing model for studying the role of chromosome changes in speciation. New materials from the upper reaches of the Surkhob River in the Pamiro-Alay mountains resulted in the discovery of a new form with 2n = 30. The application...
